Aishah Help – COVID-19 Community Support Project
During the COVID-19 crisis, Aishah Help provided essential support to vulnerable individuals and families through a range of initiatives aimed at reducing isolation, providing emergency aid, and improving access to vital resources.
Key Services Delivered:
✅ E1 Food Bank – Established a temporary food bank at the Micro Business Park, operating 9 AM – 7 PM to serve those in need.
✅ Telephone Support Services – A helpline was set up with bilingual speakers, social workers, and healthcare professionals to support:
•Domestic violence victims
•Asylum seekers and homeless individuals
•People facing anxiety, bereavement, and mental health challenges
•Over 200 calls were responded to, offering guidance and emotional support.
✅ Medical Helpline – Video consultations provided by on-call doctors for those 65+ years and individuals with underlying health conditions.
✅ Food Parcels – Delivered 174 food parcels to 58 vulnerable beneficiaries, ensuring a three-month food supply tailored to religious and cultural dietary needs.
Impact of the Grant:
• Enabled Aishah Help to meet the immediate needs of the most vulnerable during COVID-19.
•Strengthened community relationships and allowed for better understanding of emerging needs such as domestic abuse support.
•Increased capacity to respond quickly while coordinating with local businesses and stakeholders to reduce food wastage.
•Helped elderly and isolated individuals stay safe, reducing unnecessary exposure to the virus.
•Provided accurate COVID-19 information in multiple languages, helping to counter misinformation and reduce NHS helpline pressures.
Case Study: Supporting AB
AB, a 66-year-old woman, was recovering from a major operation while caring for her 82-year-old mother. She lacked internet access, English fluency, and mobility, making it difficult to buy food or understand government/NHS letters. Aishah Help:
•Delivered food parcels meeting her dietary needs.
•Arranged a bilingual volunteer to assist with translation and COVID-19 information.
• Provided emotional reassurance and ongoing support via the helpline.
• Helped her feel connected and cared for by the community.
