Community Reconnect: Gift your old smart devices
There are approximately 1.5 million homes in the UK without internet access. As part of Community Reconnect, we provide a very practical solution for these individuals to become digitally connected, in addition to reducing the amount of e-waste generated.
The process is straightforward:
Our team cleans, data-wipes, and redistributes your old smartphone to someone in need. Each recipient receives 6 months’ free data, minutes and texts provided by Vodafone. As of today, we have re-homed hundreds of smartphones. We can do a great deal to increase the number of people who are digitally connected.
Is your old phone eligible?
Your smart device must:
-
Be in good working order. Neither the screen nor the back should be cracked.
-
Be a smartphone or tablet (e.g. an iPhone or an Android device)
-
Hold charge
Please send the charger if you have one, but it is not necessary.
Does everything look good? Please sign up below to receive a free post envelope.
Please check out what to do with your smart device before posting. You do not need to visit the post office once the envelope is completed, simply place it in a postbox.

If you have a working charger you’d like to donate along with the phone, we’d love to re-home it too!
Community Reconnect - Free Smart Devices
Millions of people in the UK don’t have access to the internet. Community Reconnect supports the community to reconnect with their families and friends, learn new digital smartphone skills, and access online community services. The need to digitally empower the elderly generation and vulnerable people has never been more crucial than now.
How does Community Reconnect work?
Each beneficiary receives;
- a non-committal sim with 6 months of free data, text and calls.
- a refurbished smart device and access to free digital skills training.
- up to 4 hours of one-to-one personalised training and support on developing their skills and confidence in using a digital device.
Before the one-to-one training sessions, the digital inclusion training officer will carry out an initial assessment to ensure that the sessions can be tailored to your needs. The one-to-one training sessions will look at how to manage risk, access services, connect with family and friends and explore hobbies and interests online.
