Community Reconnect: Empowering Older People Through Digital Inclusion
With funding from the Life Chances Older People’s Digital Grants, Aishah Help successfully delivered the Community Reconnect project, supporting 25 older residents in Tower Hamlets to improve their digital skills and confidence.
Key Achievements:
✅ 104 digital skills sessions delivered
✅ 25 older participants received training tailored to their needs
✅ 10 refurbished smartphones distributed with free calls, texts, and data
✅ 15 tablets provided through partnerships
✅ Increased digital literacy, with participants learning to use email, access health services, and connect with family online
✅ Group & one-on-one training enhanced social interaction and reduced isolation
✅ Collaboration with partners including Age UK, NHS mental health teams, and Vodafone
Impact:
•72-year-old Amina’s story: Initially intimidated by technology, she now confidently video calls her grandchildren and explores online cooking tutorials, reigniting her passion for cooking and reconnecting with friends.
•64% of participants were women, highlighting a significant impact on older BAME women.
•Participants gained confidence using digital devices for socialising, managing finances, and accessing vital services.
This project has successfully bridged the digital gap, helping older residents stay connected, independent, and engaged. 🎉
